Lorie Byrd’s Excellent Questions for Senator Edwards

October 4, 2004

On the Polipundit blog Lorie Byrd has posed some great questions for Senator Edwards in the debate tomorrow night, questions that have no chance of seeing the light of day. But hope springs eternal. The only little thing I would add to this excellent list is in question 6 Lorie refers to John Kerry’s very tough statements about Saddam and WMD back when Clinton was president in 1997-1998. I thought he’d also made similar statements much more recently. According to the Bush/Cheney website, he did — in 2002. Here’s from their rapid response to Kerry’s debate missatements :

Breaking Debate Fact: Kerry On The Threat Posed By Saddam Hussein

In Tonight’s Debate, President Bush Said:

My opponent looked at the same intelligence I looked at and declared, in 2002, that Saddam Hussein was a grave threat. He also said, in December of 2003, that anyone who doubts that the world is safer without Saddam Hussein does not have the judgment to be president. I agree with him. The world is better off without Saddam Hussein.a^??  (President George W. Bush, First Presidential Debate, Miami, FL, 9/30/04)

Kerry On The Threat Posed By Saddam Hussein

Kerry: a^?oeI Believe That A Deadly Arsenal Of Weapons Of Mass Destruction In His Hands Is A Threat, And A Grave Threat.a^??   “When I vote to give the President of the United States the authority to use force, if necessary, to disarm Saddam Hussein, it is because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a threat, and a grave threat, to our security and that of our allies in the Persian Gulf region. I will vote yes because I believe it is the best way to hold Saddam Hussein accountable.” (Kerry Senate Floor Speech on Iraq Resolution Vote, 10/9/02)
So Lorie, this is just more ammo for you.
