San Diego City Council Orders Cross Removed

March 10, 2005

In keeping with the anti-Christian times, the San Diego City Council ordered that the Mount Soledad cross must come down — in order to comply with a federal injunction barring its continued presence on public lands? Why? Its presence on public lands “violates the state Constitution’s guarantee of separation between church and state.” I doubt even the state constitution uses those words. When you consider that one of the original purposes of the First Amendment Establishment Clause was to prevent the federal government from interfering with state religions — even established ones — it is ironic that federal courts routinely tell states what they can and can’t do these days under their own constitutions. I wonder what foreign courts might have to say about this. I would think the federal judge would want to consult these learned, enlightened foreign authorities before making a rash decision.
