Congress on Warpath Against Baseball Steroids

March 9, 2005

The New York Daily News reports that Major League Baseball players will be issued subpoenas “as soon as today” by the House Government Reform Committee to testify on steroid use. Is it just me, or do some of you also wonder why in the world Congress is making this it’s business? I know the President raised the issue too, and I didn’t understand that either. We already have a hyperactive, not to mention, over-extended government. Why is it sticking its nose into MLB, even if it is for a good cause? Not every cause is appropriate for government to undertake. Where is our sense of priorities? Where is our awareness of constitutional limitations? If Congress actually has time to pursue this then it should adjourn.
