Democratic Party: A Reverse Class Action Suit?

February 2, 2005

I was just reading about the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll and some thoughts came to mind — a dangerous sign, in my case :). The poll reveals that 50% approve of the president’s job performance and a whopping 45% minority — and I’m not being facetious — don’t! And as the Ginsu Knife promos say, “There’s more.” 87% of Republicans approve, while only 14% of Democrats do.

It occurred to me that the problem is not with the Democratic Party, but the Democrats themselves. Disgruntled conservative Democrats often say they are disappointed that the “party has left me.” I think a more accurate description of the problem is that the Democrats have left — figuratively — the party. I think it’s time for the party to consider a reverse class action lawsuit to force its rank and file to come back to reality — how about at least far Left instead of off the charts? For Democrats to be in such lockstep opposition to President Bush means that they have abandoned all reason in favor of their hatred toward him. It is the Democratic Party that has the grievance, not its renegade members.
