La Shawn Barber Shares GOP’s (and Dems’) History on Civil Rights

November 19, 2004

My friend La Shawn Barber provides some invaluable links (for the sake of blog etiquette I’ve got to ask you to go to La Shawn’s excellent site to get this info and the great links she provides) tracing the respective platforms of the Repubs and Dems preceding major civil rights legislation through the years. I’ve seen a lot of this stuff, but it is great to have it assimilated in one place. Great ammo against the charge that the GOP has always been unsupportive of civil rights. I wish I could better understand why African-Americans (and Jewish people, for that matter) have leaned so heavily Democratic over the years. I remain optimistic that this will change — and it may have begun to already. Or am I just dreaming?
