We’ve All Been Predicting This

October 20, 2004

Many of us have been predicting that if Kerry forces aren’t able to finagle their man into office through nefarious means they’ll immediately resort to post-election chicanery. Now we learn from an AP story that their plans are even more sophisticated. The Kerry people — being accomplished intellectuals and all — intend NOT to make the same “mistakes” Al Gore made in trying to steal the election from George W. Bush. From the article:

Unlike the former vice president, who lost a recount fight and the 2000 election, Kerry will be quick to declare victory on election night and begin defending it. He also will be prepared to name a national security team before knowing whether he’s secured the presidency.

Does this mean that if Kerry loses by, say, 2 percentage points, he won’t even make an initial concession call to President Bush, only later to renege on it? Does it mean that instead he’ll just brazenly declare victory and proceed with his pre-planned, groundless election contests — and at the same time “name a national security team?”

My friends, we know from his history that Kerry is willing to throw his fellow sailors and soldiers down the stairs, saying they all committed war crimes and atrocities in Vietnam. He’s a guy who has proudly held the American flag upside down. (Where’s the publicity on that despicable, disqualifying act, by the way?) Can we infer from this AP report that he’s willing to subject the United States to complete electoral chaos in order to hang on to his lifelong quest to become president? We don’t have to infer. We know he is. I have been fearing this more than Kerry winning. Just how far are these people willing to go to regain power? Read this other disturbing paragraph from the AP article:Six so-called “SWAT teams” of lawyers and political operatives will be situated around the country with fueled-up jets awaiting Kerry’s orders to speed to a battleground state. The teams have been told to be ready to fly on the evening of the election to begin mounting legal and political fights. No team will be more than an hour from a battleground.

Do you all understand the significance of this? Kerry has lawyers ready to contest elections when there isn’t a scintilla of evidence that Republicans plan to commit election fraud — yet there is a mountain of evidence that Democrats plan to do so and have already begun doing it. You have to believe that these people cannot possibly respect the integrity of this constitutional system when they’re willing to jeopardize it all to win — the ends justify the means. Now read these further paragraphs:”Right now, we have 10,000 lawyers out in the battleground states on Election Day, and that number is growing by the day,” said Michael Whouley, a Kerry confidant who is running election operations at the Democratic National Committee.

While the lawyers litigate, political operatives will try to shape public perception. Their goal would be to persuade voters that Kerry has the best claim to the presidency and that Republicans are trying to steal it.

Democrats are already laying the public relations groundwork by pointing to every possible voting irregularity before the Nov. 2 election and accusing Republicans of wrongdoing.

And note that there are paragraphs in the AP story that I didn’t paste here to the effect that Bush similarly acted as if he’d won in 2000 and announced his security team before the election contests were complete. But this a pathetic, fraudulent effort by the AP to establish moral equivalence between the planned post-election misdeeds of the Dems this year and the proper, defensive reactions of the Bush team in 2000. President Bush had won the election in 2000. The contests were all bogus and contrived. Of course he should have begun acting presidential. I don’t know if Democrats realize it or not, but the orderly transition of power is one of the hallmarks of our constitutional system. They are playing a dangerously cynical game here that threatens, truthfully, to bring down our entire democratic process.

We must wonder how much they could possibly cherish this system, given their repeated efforts to undermine it for the sake of winning. You will recall that their most hated nemesis, Richard Nixon, would never have stooped to these levels. When he had a legitimate basis to contest his defeat in 1960 he declined out of love and respect for this nation and its system of government. Sadly we don’t see any such love coming from the modern Democrat Party. I hope enough people are watching what’s going on here. Not enough can be said about this.
