Charles Rangel to Introduce Impeach-Rumsfeld Bill

December 20, 2004

Carl Limbacher at Newsmax is reporting that NY Congressman Charlie Rangel announced Sunday that he intends to put in a bill demanding not only the resignation of Donald Rumsfeld as Secretary of Defense, but his impeachment.

Among Rumsfeld’s “impeachable offenses” are that he advised “the president to get rid of Saddam Hussein,” and “because he would allow us to believe that he was shocked and he did not know exactly what we would be faced with [in Iraq].” Oh yes, and he allegedly didn’t personally sign condolence letters to families of deceased soldiers.

When you’re a liberal Democrat, I suppose, actual felonies, such as perjury and obstruction of justice don’t constitute “High Crimes and Misdemeanors,” but nebulous and spurious allegations about foreign policy miscalculations do.

It just seems to me that because the president won his re-election so recently, Democrats have decided (consciously or not) to transfer their considerable hostility to one of the president’s chief surrogates, Mr. Rumsfeld. The persistence and personal viciousness of these attacks against Rumsfeld are striking.
